If you have lived in Port Royal for more than a season, you already know Saturday morning has a gravitational pull. The Naval Heritage Park lot fills up before nine, Paris Avenue wakes up slowly, and by lunchtime the town has quietly done its weekly business. What has changed this fall is how much of the rest of the day now lives inside that same three-block radius. Between the market, a returning garden lecture series, an artist studio on Paris Avenue that opens its doors after hours, and one September festival that turns Live Oak Park into a food-truck world tour, you can build almost every Saturday from September through late October without moving your car once.
That is the thesis worth carrying into the calendar below. Port Royal is small enough that its best fall programming has clustered, on purpose, along Ribaut and Paris. Knowing the cluster is the difference between catching two things in one morning and missing three by driving home too early.
The anchor: Naval Heritage Park, 9 to noon
Start where everyone else starts. The Port Royal farmers market is open every Saturday, year-round, 9 to 12, rain or shine, at 1615 Ribaut Rd. in Naval Heritage Park. That is the constant. What varies is what actually shows up on the tables, and fall is one of the better stretches to pay attention.
Expect fresh local produce, shrimp, poultry, beef, pork, eggs, bread and cheese, plants, ferns, citrus trees and fresh-cut flower bouquets, plus prepared-food vendors serving BBQ, dumplings, she-crab soup, crab cakes, tacos, boiled peanuts, coffee, baked goods, bagels and breakfast sandwiches. On a strong Saturday you can knock out a week of groceries and eat breakfast standing up. If Carolina Kidz is set up with a Nigerian Dwarf Goat to pet, they usually bring raw goat's milk, drinkable yogurt, chevre, ricotta and feta, and goat cheese cheesecake, which is not a sentence you get to write about most farmers markets.
Two practical notes locals learn the hard way. Dogs are allowed in the park but not in the market area, so plan the leash handoff before you commit to the cheese line. And the entrance is off Ribaut Rd. in front of the Naval Hospital, near the Spanish Galleon Playground, with the parking lot off Pinckney Blvd. If you circle for a spot on Ribaut, you are circling the wrong side of the park.
What September and October add under the oak
The reason to keep coming back in fall is that the market stops being only a market on September 6. From that Saturday through October 25, the Lowcountry Master Gardener Association hosts its Lunch and Learn series at the same address, at the same time you are already going to be there.
Come and enjoy the Port Royal Farmers Market. Grab a bite and enjoy your lunch while listening to our local experts. We meet beneath the great oak near the gazebo at noon every Saturday from September 6 to October 25. There is a free raffle and we give away many donated plants. Bring a chair and your curiosity.
Producer Sandra Educate has run the project since 2010, drawing on Master Gardeners and outside professionals to teach the specific challenges of gardening in Beaufort County, with door prizes of plants and books donated by presenters and attendees; some of those plants are descendants of previous years' raffle winners. That last detail is the giveaway that this is not a tourism event. It is an eight-Saturday routine for people who plan to still be gardening here next year, and it happens to be free.
The timing is worth underlining. The market closes at noon. Lunch and Learn starts at noon. If you show up at 9 for shrimp, you can browse for two hours, buy a coffee from a prepared-food vendor, and sit down under the oak without leaving the property.
One block east: Paris Avenue after the market
Here is the part most people miss. Once the market packs up, the day quietly shifts a few hundred yards east to Paris Avenue, where the Town of Port Royal's Artist Incubator Space keeps periodic hours. The Incubator Space Open Studios have run in the late afternoon, 4 to 7 p.m., at 828A Paris Avenue. If you are already planning to end the day downtown, it is worth checking the Town's official calendar at portroyal.org for the next Open Studios date before you commit to dinner elsewhere.
That gives you a middle-of-the-day gap between market and studios, which is exactly the window the Paris Avenue restaurants are built for. A rough guide, by what you actually want:

None of these are new. The point is that a fall Saturday in Port Royal has always had good food attached; what is new is that the market, the garden series, and the studios have finally lined up on the same clock and the same street.
The Saturday to break the routine: September 26
Every fall rotation needs one day that behaves differently. This year it is September 26, and it is happening at Live Oak Park.
Taste of the World comes to Live Oak Park on Saturday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. This new event brings together a lineup of food trucks offering global cuisine in one place in Port Royal, with flavors from Africa, Asia, Europe, and beyond. The framing matters. Port Royal's other headline food event, the Soft Shell Crab Festival, is a spring institution held on Paris Avenue in April, organized by the Old Village Association and free to the public, and it leans hard on one seasonal product. Taste of the World is the fall counterweight, and it is deliberately not about local seafood. If you were annoyed that the fall food calendar felt thin compared to spring, September 26 is the correction.
Two things to plan around. Live Oak Park is a short drive or a longer walk from the farmers market, so this is the one Saturday where you probably do move your car. And the window is 11 to 5, which overlaps the market's last hour. If you want both, hit the market at open, be at Live Oak Park by 11:30.
Building your fall rotation
A workable rhythm for someone who already lives here:
- Every Saturday, 9 to noon. Market at Naval Heritage Park. Coffee first, produce second, prepared food last so it does not sit in the car.
- Saturdays, September 6 through October 25, noon. Lunch and Learn under the great oak near the gazebo. Bring a chair.
- Saturday, September 26, 11 to 5. Taste of the World at Live Oak Park. Skip lunch beforehand.
- Selected Fridays and Saturday afternoons. Check the Town of Port Royal's calendar at portroyal.org for the next Artist Incubator Open Studios at 828A Paris Avenue.
- Fourth of July, for planning next summer. Worth noting for your 2027 calendar that the Port Royal 4th of July Celebration runs at The Sands with festivities starting mid-afternoon, fireworks around 9:15 p.m., food trucks, jump castles, live music from local artists, and a performance by the U.S. Marine Corps Band.
There is a version of Port Royal you can experience by showing up at the market for forty minutes and leaving. That version is fine. The version that rewards actually living here is the one where you know that on the second Saturday of September, at 11:45 a.m., you can hand off your tote of shrimp to your spouse, walk twenty feet, and sit down under a live oak while somebody explains why your camellia is unhappy. That is the difference between passing through and being from a place.
